La Ruta Maya is an annual three day canoe race from San Ignacio to Belize City. It passes through just outside of Belmopan. This year we decided to go check it out. Unfortunately, we couldn't get there until after most of the boats were in but we saw one or two come in. Many of the participants camp out as it is easier than finding a place to store the canoe and all the supplies. We checked out the BATSUB (British Army) camp with Nigel and Jackie. Max was impressed with their setup. He was also very keen on the guys riding the horses around the area.
