The Carribbean Shore

Kev and I have been getting a little cranky due to the heat and the long hours that he is working. Today he decided to blow off work and head to the beach. At 9am we piled into the car for the drive to Hopkins, which is where we tried to go on my birthday. After a quick (very, very quick) tour of Hopkins, we decided to have lunch at Thongs. No, it wasn't a strip club - think along the lines of another name for flip flops. It was a little place owned by a German couple who are going to be in Belmopan this week and going to stop by for a pizza. We asked them for directions to a good beach for swimming and they directed us a little further south to the resorts.

We stopped at Beaches and Dreams for a quick dip in the Sea but felt weird since the bar didn't open until 4. Back into the car and this time we stopped off at Jaguar Reef. I gotta say, if you have money to spend on lodgings and want to stay at the sea, this would be my recommendation so far. We enjoyed a lovely beer at the bar so we didn't feel bad about using their property to gain access to the beach, which are all open to the public in Belize. Since we were crashing the place, we decided not to use a beach chair but to put our stuff in the sand under a tree. The three of us went swimming for quite a while. Max seemed to really enjoy when he and I jumped over the waves. Too bad it takes close to 1.5 hours to get to Hopkins and that the road into town is pure crap. Our of consideration for Kevin (since he has to drive everywhere = manual van), I conceded that Hopkins would only be for special occassions and we'll see if we can find a place closer to home to go swimming (this means river, not Sea).

Swimming suits are off and we are getting ready to drive home.
