Torch Relay and Take Back the Land Christian Parade

September 20th is an important day in BZ. It is Independence Day Eve. From what I've been able to piece together, there is a torch relay in which numerous lighted torches are run from one end of the country to the other. At some point they all cross through BMP and on their way out of town, they ran by Pasquales.




After the torches, there is a parade that starts in the Village of Roaring Creek and ends in BMP. The parade was supposed to start at 8pm but it was really much closer to 9:30. After finding a good parking spot, we were ready for what we were calling the Jesus Parade. The Jesus Parade was.... something else. What I can say is the Belizeans are very proud of their religions. Their parading skills could use a little work, though. This parade was awful. Ironically, the next day at the Independence Day Parade I was chit chatting about the Jesus Parade and was told it was absolutely fantastic. We must have been at the wrong parade.

There was a 'jump up' after this parade but we decided to pass on that and go home. BZ rings in Independence Day with midnight fireworks. We attempted to sleep through them but that didn't work so well. Very loud.
